Long Weekend in Sydney

Alyssa: We went back to Sydney for the Australia Day long weekend and it was a great visit as usual. I never realised Sydney had humid weather until this trip back. I suppose after living in Melbourne for a bit over 2 years now I am able to see Sydney in a different light. Being with family and friends is such a great feeling, for me it’s what “coming home” is all about.

We celebrated Australia Day with some of our friends at Monique & Trevor’s new place in Hunters Hill overlooking stunning water views. We feasted on “banh xeo” and “nem nuong” round up with Pat n Stick’s ice cream sandwiches. I managed to consecutively devour 2 ice cream sandwiches and could have gone for a third had Angela not put a limit on my consumption (what do you mean"share?").

That night, we also caught up with our buddies Thao & Khanh and their cute daughter Kirsten. Time sure flies when you look at how fast kids grow. Thao was 9 months preggers at my wedding and now her girl is 3 years old!

The following day we visited my folk’s place which was a gathering of sorts given my uncle and sister has since moved out of home. In the afternoon we went over Yung’s sister’s place for dinner and got to meet the newest addition to our extended family, our nephew Aidan, born earlier this month. Yung & I got a bit of practice holding the baby briefly before giving him back to his mother (new borns are heavy to carry around as I’ve discovered).

We certainly maximised our 2.5 day trip and Yung even managed to satisfy his craving for beef noodle soup by having lunch and dinner at Pho An. We’re not sure when our next trip up to Sydney will be but it’s certainly an occasion to look forward to.

Always great to catch up with you, darl! I've arranged to get you your very own Pat and Stick t-shirt. (See how well we pay our lawyers!)
