Moomba Waterfest 2005

Yung: Melbourne is certainly the place for festivals, Almost every week, some main street in some main suburb is closed off for some main festival. This week, it was Moomba at Southbank. We decided to take up the fun with some fireworks display on Saturday night. Moomba festival is based around the Yarra river, with water skiing competition, and the infamous birdman race (where people make up and wear flying objects of all types and sizes and launch themselves into the Yarra river)...what wackos...as if the river isn't contaminated enough!
The festivals certainly attracts people from all walks of life...particularly skinny long haired Asian punks walking around with stupid cheap stuffed toys...obviously won from the many carnival games on offer.

Moomba is fun, its happening, its weird, but we still haven't worked out what it stands for.

Alyssa: the Moomba festival was held over three days - Friday to Sunday. Unfortunately, we missed most of the main events ie watching the parade (we couldn't wake up on time), watching the birdman race (it coincide with our lunch time so no prize for guessing which option we chose). However, we did manage to watch the fireworks on Friday night, and watched a bit of the skiing competition. You will see that we've posted some pictures taken over the long weekend (Monday is a public holiday for us 'Melbournians'). These Kodak moments includes snap shots of the daily activities in Southbank where we live and breakfast at our favourite breakfast cafe on the Yarra River. To view the pictures, click here.

I hope you guys get fat on those glorious breakfasts!

I know that strip of restaurants and bars at Southbank well. Many glasses of Frangelico and Lime were had at the Bear Brass bar... We also had the most amazing French onion soup at Bistro Vite.
