Alyssa: Since having Matty, most of my hand bags have been made redundant because they could no longer hold the truck load of items needed to be cart around with a baby when going out and about. For the past 3 months, I’ve been lugging around a very unattractive promotional messenger style bag that Yung scored on one of his many work conferences and has proudly turned into a nappy bag (isn’t he resourceful?). The problem with using a non-purpose design nappy bag however, is that it ends up looking bulky by the time you add in all the essentials (such as nappies and wipes) and unnecessary add-on such as an insulator to keep the milk bottles warm. Needless to say, Yung’s make shift nappy bag was really cramming my style so I finally took matters into my own hands and bought a proper nappy bag.
When I first searched for different style nappy bags on the market, I was surprised to learn that there are two distinctive school of thoughts with nappy bag designs. The first is the traditionalist approach which includes tent size bags in garish colours and patterns. I have a suspicion that these bags are meant to deter theft as one can assume their content (half empty milk bottles, soiled bibs and loose change?) The second style of nappy bag is the “this-is-suppose-to-look-like-a-normal-bag” which looks more or less like an over sized handbag in fashionable leather (trying cleaning poo of that!). These type of bags also come with a hefty price tag. It seems that being fashionable is definitely not for the budget conscious. There are also a lot of in between bags which is what I ended up settling for. I bought a Babymel bag which is the cheaper sister brand of Storksak, the celebrity endorsed brand often seen on the arms of celebrity mums such as Angelina Jolie. Both brands have very similar designs, however the price tag sets them apart. I chose this bag because I think it's value for money. There are two insulated pockets on both ends of the bag that could keep milk bottles warm for up to 5 hours. And like other nappy bags, this one comes with a change mat and numerous inside pockets for ease of storage. So until Matty and his future siblings are nappy-free, it'll be all about the nappy bag!

(Ok, this is technically not a nappy bag - but it could be! Justification for my latest splurge, a Marc Jacobs tote)

Such a stylish diaper bag! It is actually hard to find stylish diaper bags at most stores. There is a greater selection online.
I also love the Marc Jacobs tote ... it looks fab and also practical. Great colour of leather.

I agree, I bought both bags online because the ones available in department stores are really generic and boring, and not necessarily any cheaper than what you can find online.
Hehehe. I succumbed to a Storksac bag. The Jamie Messenger that Brad Pitt uses. Tung has been using it since I brought it and he'll use it again after Darcy is done.
Tung is very resourceful. Somehow I don't think I can convince Yung to turn our nappy bag later on into a man bag!
