Melbournians: 2 months

Alyssa: Matthew is now 2 months old and looking more and more like Yung don't you agree? He is continuing to grow at an exponential rate measuring 60cm in length and weighing 7.1 kg at his 2 month check-up. Matty's weight gain is such that he has grown off the scale for babies his age and is placed in the 75th percentile band for his length. How uncanny is that for two relatively skinny people like Yung and I to end up with such a chubby baby? He is now fast outgrowing his size 0 jumpsuits! For the record I haven't been feeding him steroids. He gets around 500mls of expressed breast milk and 350ml of formula milk daily (he needs his top ups !). I think he' s just going through a growth spurt and his weight gain should settle down once he's more mobile. So for the time being, we're enjoying looking at the rolls on our little Sumo as it wont be long until he metamorphoses into a scrawny adolescent.

To coincide with his 2 month milestone, Matty's becoming more interactive, cooing and smiling at us during his nappy changing sessions. He is also starting to smile in response to expressions as oppose to the odd spontaneous smile now and again. He doesn't sleep as much as he use to during the day and now has a definitive pattern of sleep at night, sleeping usually from 7pm until 3am, and then going back to sleep again until 7am when he finally wakes up to start his day. It seems like Yung hits the ground running when he gets home from work as it coincides with Matty's most unsettling hour where he's sleepy, irritable and hungry all at the same time. Yung does a great job though of bathing, feeding and settling the little fellow before we can finally sit down for an uninterrupted dinner.

We're not sure what to expect at the 3 month milestone, but so far, the little fellow has been very manageable. During the day, he's quite content to play in his play gym or stare out the windows of our apartment while I do house work. We're now waiting for the weather to become consistently warmer in Melbourne so that we can take him out more and show him off the world!
